I usually try to avoid the cliched beach look, especially for Fashionista Friday, but there’s something timeless and treasured about heirloom-style portrait clothing and no one does it quite like Strasburg Children. We’re blessed to have two Strasburg Children’s Outlets here in Myrtle Beach {one at each Tanger Outlet Center} and my clients frequent both. Forgive the truly horrid photography from the Strasburg website but here are some outfits that would work fabulously for blissful beach portraits!

Use the code summer09 for 25% off your purchase of $30 or more at Strasburg online {sorry, website purchases only} through July 5th!
There are just no words… well, there are but they’re being saved for the collage created just for Dana and her family’s eyes.

He was so proud when he caught the crab and Dad had to crab-sit during some of our non-crab-friendly shots. Such a trooper, eh?

Look at these crazy kids. So much in love, ready and willing to do anything I asked, and just a joy to work with. I’d love to get them out for a forever Bliss™ couples/relationship session. Maybe next year… ::hint hint::

Dana just joined Facebook tonight and already has this image as her profile picture. Lauren grabbed hers too!

{Dana, welcome to the craziness that is Facebook and thanks for friending me. Your family was so much fun to work with and I can’t wait for you to see your gallery! xoxo}
I returned home from NY with a cold and cough and when she found out, Jenn told me to get some rest and not to worry about her sneak peek but I know she’s waiting so here you go, patient and oh-so-wonderful client! {not to mention absolutely gorgeous!}

Just love this shot – it’s so fun and suits the C family. No stuffy stuff for them.

Don’t you just want to eat him up?

I love the romance AND the fun in this image. The impending kiss and that little smile… so perfect for Jenn & David.

{Jenn, I had so much fun with you, Dave and the kids. Thanks for making me laugh! xoxo}
I’m in New York for Bryce’s graduation but I had to share a few images his dad took of that oh-so-magical moment when my baby boy grew up. ::sniffle::
Owego Free Academy Class of 2009

Graduated!

My baby boy…

… and last but not least, Bryce and me.

This week’s Fashionista Friday suggestion is a cool palette of blues and greys with a kick of peachy-pink floral from Gap for the adults and Janie and Jack for the littles.

While vacationing here in Myrtle Beach, Fargo child photographer Tera Christianson of Blessings Photography took time out for a family beach session at Myrtle Beach State Park. It’s always such an honor when a colleague chooses Bliss™ to photograph their family and working with Tera was no exception.

{Tera, I’m so glad we had a chance to work together this week. Hope to see you in Nashville in January! xoxo}
This Marilyn Monroe’esque moment came early in the session – and I knew we were going to have fun!

Miss J and her mom snuggled up, watching the waves.

Stephanie, Brad and Miss J spent a week in Garden City Beach, then Stephanie’s parents and sisters joined them for the second week {and their session}. Here’s the entire gang walking the beach together. I just love the connections, the naturalness of the moment, and their reflections in the wet sand.

Of course, we had to take time for some new Facebook profile pictures for X. and K. {friend me and I’ll tag you!}

{Stephanie, I’m glad J. got her water pictures even though her dress was silk. Wouldn’t you know? Thank you for choosing Bliss™ – I had a ball!}
We bonded over speedy decision making, then a phone call to switch hotels, threatening weather, golf course selection, the Crocs Outlet, and what to see/do in Myrtle Beach both with and without a car. This is Amy, my new friend from Texas. Isn’t she pretty?

Amy’s married to Mike, who really enjoyed golfing at The Dunes while he was in town. Thanks to my neighbor Tom who helped me select a short list of courses he thought would suit Mike.

Amy and Mike have two adorable sons, J & S, who were good sports about the whole thing, even when family portraits wasn’t their idea of a good time… at least at first.

And the whole S. family together – I just love this shot with S peeking behind to see what I was up to while they were walking.

{Amy, thanks for being such a good sport about all of your Myrtle Beach issues. You’re such a fabulous role model for the boys, showing them attitude can make or break just about anything. Can’t wait to see you again! xoxo}
I met the Daly family at Huntington Beach State Park and from the moment I saw their outfits {coordinating but not matching, a true-life follow up to yesterday’s Fashionista Friday} to when we left the beach, I was laughing and smiling the whole time. You could really see how much the family enjoyed being together and didn’t mind showing it for the camera.

The comfort and delight a family has in each other begins with the parents and it’s obvious these two have a deep and abiding bond… and laugh, a lot.

You can see Mom has that kind of smile that makes YOU smile when she does and passed it down, along with her oh-so-fetching looks, to Miss MK.

At the end of our session, I was treated to a dancing display the likes of which I don’t think I’ll ever see again. All I can say is it left me in tears and oh how I wish I’d had a video camera!
{Elizabeth, thank you so much for choosing Bliss™ and sharing your family with me. They, and you, were truly a delight! xoxo}
Let’s talk “matching” vs. “coordinating” when it comes to family portraits. Everybody wearing white tops and denim or khaki bottoms is the easy way out but let’s face it, who really dresses that way in real life? Instead of insisting that everyone matches for your next session, try coordinating. Much like you would pull together an outfit for yourself, choose one piece and build around it. In this case, the little girl’s dress is the piece we’re pulling colors from – the yellow and the green – then Dad’s jeans call in the navy from the boy’s polo shirt.
My secret? Once you’ve gotten everything assembled, throw everyone’s outfit on the bed, stand back, and squint. If something jumps out at you now, it’s going to jump out at you in the portrait as well and will drive you nuts every time you look at that 20×24 hanging in your hallway. Not good.
