Good luck at the Miss Myrtle Beach Scholarship Pageant this evening, Emily! The Miss Myrtle Beach Scholarship Pageant is an official preliminary for the Miss South Carolina and Miss America pageants and is the largest local pageant award in the state. The pageant is held today (March 6th) from 5-9pm at Wheelwright Auditorium on the campus of CCU. Tickets are $25/adult and $15/student & senior citizens.

Girls of Newberry | Secret Bliss

So while I was out and about photographing hotels throughout South Carolina, I actually took my beloved Nikon D3 with me just in case I had an opportunity to shoot some portraits. You see, I’m required to use the Canon 5D Mark II for this commercial project and while I’m glad to have the opportunity to learn another camera system, the equipment they provided me doesn’t include a portrait lens. Let’s just say wide angles and fisheye lenses do not make for lovely headshots, LOL!

It was cold. It was raining. Time was short. The property was… not set up for portrait photography and unlike photographing small children, I need a bit of space to work with grownups. They were coming in/leaving from work. But we still had fun and Miss Kasey will be coming to Myrtle Beach in the spring for me to photograph her again.

Now it’s time to meet the girls of Newberry…

ImagingUSA 2010 | Look out, Nashville – here we come!

When it comes to my career, I’m incredibly passionate about continuing education and I’m committed to staying involved in my professional community in all sorts of ways – from forums and email groups, to large scale conventions, to smaller get-togethers with colleagues, to mentoring and being mentored myself. This year, the largest convention/workshop of the photographic community – ImagingUSA – was held in Nashville at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel and so, rooming with Michelle Parsley of Kindle the Heart in Middle Tennessee, I met up with over 10,000 of my colleagues for 5 days of intense learning and sharing.

Michelle and I both had the honor and pleasure of being invited to work in the MpixPro booth, alongside the people who are a part of my everyday experience with my professional photo lab. I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of MpixPro since their inception and it was such fun getting to talk to all of the people who came by the booth to find out more about MpixPro, meet the people on the other side of the computer screen and photo products, and chat with photographers who use MpixPro. I’ve gotten used to seeing my work on the MpixPro website but it gave me a thrill to see it displayed right there in the booth! Please excuse the (uber ugly) iPhone snapshots but here’s a peek at Bliss® at ImagingUSA:

Welcome to the Hotel California…

Well, not really, but it’s the start of a really cool explanation for why my blog’s been so quiet since September. You see, in September I began a year-long commercial project which requires a lot of travel and I’m not at liberty to share the client’s name. It’s one of those “I could tell you, but then I’d have to shoot you” TOP GUN things. Okay, not really but again, it’s much more cool than saying “I can’t tell you because they don’t want their competitors to get a jump on them.” My territory includes South Carolina, North Carolina and parts of Georgia and I’ve really enjoyed seeing parts of SC that I’ve never visited before. Right now, I’m coming to you from Moncks Corner and I’ll be headed to the heart of downtown Charleston on Sunday. A week at home, then three weeks on the road. Ugh. It’s hard being away from my family and without the help of my mother-in-law Patricia Hill, my son Drew Trautman, and our friend, Laura Gustafson, we’d not be able to pull this off. Thank you to all of them!

I’m going to spend some time in the next week or so catching y’all up on what’s been going on in the last few months and try to be better about keeping up with the blog, even when I don’t have portraits to share. In the meantime, you can follow my crazy life on Facebook | Kimberly Hill.

Hello from St. Maarten!

Things have been CRAZY at Bliss® and the extended family is enjoying a well deserved break aboard the Carnival Miracle to celebrate Thanksgiving and Mia’s 7th birthday. Can you believe she’s almost **7** ?!?!

Lori’s extended family session in Garden City Beach outside their oceanfront beach home marked my last family beach session for the summer and it was a whopper – 20+ people, multiple tiny ones, a marine layer that decided to make an early appearance, and 2 brothers coming from North Myrtle Beach and caught in bad traffic. We went out with a BANG!

I met Tracy and her family at the Sand Dunes Resort in Myrtle Beach which has been the location of several memorable sessions, and hers was no different! Four generations, a slightly inebriated audience that wanted to “help” pose and clear people out of the background, and impending storms made for a bit of a challenge – we all rose to the occasion and I’m looking forward to seeing Tracy next year with a little less… help. ;)
